My granddaughter has attended Edgewater Hugh for the past 4 years and will graduate this may. It is an excellent school especially their EST program. The teachers are very carrying and well prepared to teach the required subjects to prepare students for college.

I've heard good things about Edgewater High. Two of my grandnephews are students there. They enjoy attending Edgewater High! Happy Grandaunt

Sure, the school corrals the students, but the students look as if they lack the spirit to actually care! The leadership cannot be effective if the students don't understand things that need to be done - my child complains that some of the teachers aren't very proactive when it comes to actually teaching. I see the amount of work that is given to my child, and how that work seems to follow home. At first I didn't believe my child when she told me that the teacher didn't collect the work, but when I checked myself, the teacher never intended on it! Also, the administration keeps making promises on making the school year more fluid, and yet it seems like it doesn't work at all. So much trash on the walkways, fights and arrests that are publicized, and even the censorship scandal from a previous term - unattractive.

EHS has improved in many areas. I like receiving phone calls from the principal and/or staff regarding important happenings. The College and Career Center has become much more helpful for the students.

Discipline needs to be improved. There are frequent fights among some students and arrests by law enforcement. The majority of students do not seem to have pride in their campus as there is trash left around the common areas by the students. Most of the teachers are committed to provide excellent instruction, but they are dealing with a diverse population of students who seem to be putting in their time until they can legally leave. There are good aspects of Edgewater; the magnet programs, AP classes, various clubs, band, chorus and sports teams help enhance the students experience at Edgewater. The Edgewater Foundation and a core group of parents are trying hard to make the school a better place for all students. Hopefully, the reconstruction of the facilities, which is expected to commence the summer of 2008, will raise standards and boost students pride and desire to learn.

My daughter is a sophomore under the EST Magnet PRogram, and she is doing great. I am not so active inthe PTA which I do regret, but, overall, I like what I see happening to my daughter's education. The one thing that the school needs is renovation - a new campus, just like what they did with Jones HIgh School!

I have been very happy with this school for the time my daughter has attended. The programs are helping her do what she needs to get into college

I am concerned about the amount of money being spent on technology features. Many of the kids at this school need sports in order to get to college. Cutting sports budgets can hurt them getting a chance for college.

Edgewater is an outstanding school with a history of strong parent involvement and tradition in the community. Well respected leaders and teachers aspire to join the faculty.

New principal has definitely made bold moves. FCAT improvement brought school from D grade to one point short of a B. Bottom 25% of students are clearly being attended to now. Inbound transfers have finally been limited; enrollment is down 500-700 for 05-06 which is great for a very crowded campus. Top 20 academic seniors have been assembled for the first time to raise competitive awareness and drive them to make challenging course selections and to apply to more selective colleges. Teachers are now being held more accountable for submitting pre-planning calendars. After a review of prior students' poor performances on AP exams and a general lack of preparedness as they move from one level to the next in a subject, many of the upper-level courses have been re-assigned to different teachers this year. It will be interesting to watch this school re-develop under this new leadership.

Edgewater High School is a very diverse school. The EST magnet program offers great options for the student that is up for the challenge. The new principal has placed focus on improving A.P. and honors courses.

Edgewater is a wonderful school. My children, a freshman and senior are in the Engineering, Science and Technology magnet and go here by choice. We have found the EST program to be challenging with many real world applications. My son has taken both Cisco and CADD classes that would enable him to get a good job directly after high school if he wasn't college bound. We have found the counselors and teachers to be extremely helpful and responsive. The sports teams are some of the best in the state. Edgewater received a D grade in the Florida FCAT last year due to the failure of the bottom 25% of students to show significant improvement. Edgewater also had 6 National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists. Students have everything necessary to succeed at Edgewater if that is their choice.

Disappointed in school. Staff does not respond to email or return parent phone calls. Very nice, new principal. Maybe he can change things around.
